Marina Bennett is a dynamic singer-songwriter based in Canada with an effortless ability to pull the listener into the present moment. As a self proclaimed sonic story-teller, her captivating songwriting pairs up with her richly magnetic, emotive voice and soaring range to create an exciting raw vulnerability and powerful sound. Her new single “Wandering Naked” anticipating her debut EP coming in 2024, is a haunting yet sensual mid tempo dark pop song perfect for fall that features Marina’s raw and powerfully mesmerizing vocals. She showcases her brilliant songwriting, by exploring themes of jealousy, obsession and anxiety and the inner turmoil that comes with wondering if someone is truly feeling the same connection. The sonic landscape within the song pulls the listener right into Marina’s anxious heart as her wandering imagination leaves her feeling vulnerable and obsessed.
The song features a steady pulse like a raised heartbeat and vibey piano alongside darker synth textures and a steady hypnotic kick with deep and soaring vocals that leave the track feeling hauntingly ethereal and expansive. “You’ve got me wandering naked” repeats over and over as the listener goes deeper into the spell she’s under, wondering if she’ll ever get out.
Marina’s words about songwriting: “I see songwriting as sonic story telling and it's such a huge part of my mission as an artist to make others feel less alone in their emotional landscapes by writing songs that capture and express real experiences to help myself and others heal through them.”
She teamed up with fellow Canadian Producer Julien Renvoise to create her sonic vision. Renvoise also mixed it to perfection and it was mastered by the talented Nicholas Di Lorenzo. Marina wanted the song to feel raw just like anxiety, jealousy and obsessive thoughts–boiling up inside of you until they take you over completely. She loves to play with the light and the dark in the concepts behind her songwriting, drawing from a wide range of emotions she’s experienced that allow her to express herself with such vulnerability and strength. In 2022 Marina placed as a semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Competition (the largest in the world) independently with “Wandering Naked”, competing against label artists and publishers worldwide.
